Week 5 Course Reflections

Course Reflections

Throughout the extent of this course Instrucdtional Lreadership: The Technology Link, much positive and useful information was obtained. One of the results of the course that I had envisioned, were ways in which technology would enhance the educational process of students. Also, as a campus leader, I anticipated discovering strategies that could be used to help teachers mplement and use technology more frequently in the classroom. An analysis of the current technological situation on ones campus was key in order to determine where the campus and district are regarding their technology use. This is important because now we know what is needed in regards to technology, and now can work to obtain the necessary tools needed to improve technology among staff and students. In addition, the needed staff development education. The basic visions and expectations that I had for the course were met, and to a certain degree even exceeded. The goals and ideas presented in the course were accurate with those that I had expected and envisioned.

When analyzing the information detailed in the course, the outcomes that were obtained are on par with strategies and ideas that can be of use currently in my present field. This is due to the fact that these newly required outcomes can benefit the districts students now. Implementation of these ideas and strategies are key in order to ensure that the full effectiveness of technology is available to the students. Whether it is using blog, internet safety or using multidia media strategies, all aspects of technology can be beneficial to today’s teachers and students.

Throughout the course, most of the visions that I had were met. However, one that was not met was the use of the webcam. I was looking forward to being able to experiment and increase my knowledge of webcam use in the classroom. This objective was not met in my opinion due to the limitation of equipment and the lack of feasibility involved. This is an unfortunate situation, but maybe the capability will exist to include this technological aspect into our district.

The course had challenges and required much time and effort, but each assignment was completed within the required time frame. Each assignment that wsa required dealt with a various aspect of technology. From analyzing the STaR Chart data, one could determine the various levels of technological knowledge. By creating a blog, one was able to use another tool to enhance student learning. The power point assignment enabled one to explore another venue in which to use technology in the classroom to help students learn. When one is asked to assess the technology of the district in which it is an opportunity to analyze close up what the needs of the district are.

Throughout this course, many things were learned and discovered. From the standpoint of what was discovered about technology, new methods which are useful for enhancing the educational process of the students. Also, new methods for teachers to use in the classroom to help students were also discovered. In addition, there were staff development opportunities presented that teachers and administrators could take part in, in order to implement technology into the classroom. Also discovered throughout the course was my lack of technological knowledge and use in the classroom. There was minimal use of technololgy on my part used before this course. Now, I feel that I have the tools to be more technological savvy and bring my newly acquired knowledge to the students that I am teaching. Thus, I believe that I will become a stronger leader and better administrator by acquiring more technological information and knowledge. Being a campus leader, one must be a trendsetter in the realm and support all use of technology on campus.

The course outlined the use of the blogs in education and one assignment asked the students to create a blog. The use of blogs in the classroom and in the educational process are a trend that will continue throughout the 21st century. As students depend more and more on technology, the importance of blogs as a means to enhance and improve the educational process will become more important. Even in the area of communicating with school stakeholders, the blog has a place in education. If nothing more than a tool to allow quick and easy access to pertinent school and teacher information, blogs are a useful tool in the educational process. Stakeholders can always keep up to date with the latest information and express their opinions as often as they like. With these achievements in regard to blogs, come concerns for student security and safety while online. The readings throughout the course addressed this issue, as well as how to prevent students from becoming victims of internet predators. The course also details other ways to keep students safe from online bullies and encourages parent involvement with this matter.
